The University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking a faculty member specializing in Orthopedic Hand Surgery. Appointment rank may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level and may align with the clinical (non-tenure), or tenure tracks, depending on clinical experience and academic interests. 


Opportunity Overview: Join an accomplished and collaborative team of over 50 faculty members, including 25 practicing surgeons, within a closed-staff academic practice at a top-tier medical institution. This is an exciting time to join the department as it moves to a brand new, state-of-the-art Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in North Liberty- IA- a major initiative focused on growth and market expansion.


The Division of Hand Surgery provides comprehensive care for routine, complex and rare upper extremity conditions, with particular expertise in:



  • Microsurgery and peripheral nerve surgery

  • Hand and wrist reconstruction and replantation

  • Tendon and ligament repairs

  • Arthroscopy, arthroplpasty, and fusion of the wrist

  • Brachial plexus and nerve compression syndromes

  • Congenital conditions and trauma reconstruction

Compensation and Support:

The University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation is seeking a faculty spine surgeon who will have teaching, research, and clinical service responsibilities in the Spine Division of the department. Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor based on background and qualifications and may be in either on the Clinical or Tenure Track, depending upon research interests and background. The University of Iowa is a level 1 trauma center and cares for severely injured patients from around the state. This is an outstanding opportunity to join our academic department and to be a part of our growing spine service.


The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services.  The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.  The orthopedic spine service will provide care to patients at this new facility as well as at the central Level 1 Trauma Center.  UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly-skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. Appointment is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor based on background and qualifications and may be either on the Clinical or Tenure Track, depending upon research interests and background. This is an outstanding opportunity to join our academic department and to be a part of our thriving sports medicine service which provides comprehensive care to the Iowa Hawkeye athletic teams and to athletes from Eastern Iowa and beyond.
