The University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has two unique scholarship opportunities for underrepresented populations for visiting medical students each summer.

Our department has a history of promoting diversity and has been a leader in gender diversity in orthopedic surgery.

We have sponsored the Ruth Jackson-Steindler scholarship yearly for many years and are excited to add an additional underrepresented population scholarship opportunity funded through the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation in collaboration with Carver College of Medicine.

We have additional work to do to make our specialty more diverse and promote a welcoming environment for all individuals both in our department and within orthopedic surgery.

We feel that promoting diversity and opportunities for underrepresented population students in orthopedics is one way we can become a positive part of the change.

Please see each of the opportunities for the application information.

If you have any questions, please contact medical student coordinator, Tonia Johnston at tonia-johnston@uiowa.edu.
